1. Stays of Up to Six Months (Tourist Visas) 2. Stays for Work or Business Purpose (Short-Term/Work and Study Visas) 3.Stays For Longer Than Six Months This is the most common type of visa, although it can also apply to a short term visitor whose visit will extend over six months, provided that they have made adequate arrangements for their stay in Ireland. This would include those who have taken up residence on a tourist visa but are still working there until they obtain long term residence, which could be granted after two years' continuous legal status.
4. Residence Permit: Stays Of More Than One Year It’s important to know how you qualify under EU law if an Irish resident permits your child into this country for any reason other than studying. If you do not meet these criteria then once in Ireland with a residential permit, you may find yourself unable to leave for extended periods as without an exemption from the Department of Justice and Equality, no person can spend more than one year out at a time while retaining residency status here. With children, matters become even trickier because a parent must demonstrate financial means during each period that their child is absent. In essence, parents with children should only go abroad for limited purposes, such as business trips where expenses can be justified by receipts. A single overseas trip of less than three weeks does not affect a person’s right to return home. However, if a person spends longer away before returning, they cannot guarantee they won’t lose full rights to reside permanently here unless they provide evidence, through bank statements etc, that significant funds remain in place to cover the costs of their absence.
